Switch Vision – Frames & Sunwear

World’s First Magnetic Interchange Lens System™ hailed as “the biggest sunwear innovation in a generation.”  An innovative magnet-based quick-change lens technology makes lens-switching a snap.  Literally.

FAIRFIELD, NJ, Summer 2009

A new line of sports performance sunglasses featuring the world’s first magnetic interchange lens system will begin appearing in selected optical stores across the US this year.  Industry insiders exposed to early prototypes of the new sunwear line, aptly named Switch™, predict that the novelty and sheer “magic” of its new quick-change lens system will be just what the industry needs to stimulate sales.  The groundbreaking new technology is the brainchild of Switch Vision™ LLC, a new company formed specifically to market the new line.  The new patent-pending system for Switch is based on small, powerful magnets embedded in both the lens and the frame, permitting users to snap lenses in and out quickly and easily without any of the twisting and fumbling common with mechanical lens interchange systems.  Yet the magnetic attraction is strong enough to keep the lenses in place even if the sunglasses are dropped onto a hiking trail or buffeted by winds of 100 mph.

“Magnetic interchange lens technology is a quantum leap forward.  It opens up a whole new category in sunwear,” says David Chute, President and CEO of Switch Vision LLC, and co-founder of the company.  “Our lenses are insanely fast and easy to switch.”

Switch Vision Chairman, Anthony P. DiChiara adds, “No other interchangeable solution even comes close in terms of simplicity.  We’ve invested a lot of money over the last three years refining this technology to make it both functionally superior and aesthetically elegant.”

How does magnetic attraction solve a real-world problem?

Deni Crescenzi, Director of Design for Switch Vision, has spent the last 15 years developing sports performance products for a Who’s Who of Fortune 500 companies.  He calls the new magnetic interchange lens technology “revolutionary—a breakthrough solution to a real need.”  He describes conventional systems based on bending frames and lining up tabs and grooves as “difficult to manipulate at the best of times, but practically impossible on a ski hill in sub-zero weather when your fingers are stiff and numb from the cold.  With Switch, you just tug on the old lens to remove it, then hold the new one near the frame and let the magnets pull it into position.  The magnets do the work for you.”
